If anyone needed a union, it was me. I worked at a place for 16 years and worked a lot of forced overtime. I have a mishap which they consider a safety violation and See Ya. If my former place of employment had a union, I would still have a job. Unions, yes.

I am a member of a german union for public services (ver.di). Unions are needed more than ever before in the whole world. All what we have reached was only possible by hard struggle. Capitalists and/or companies will never give anything to the workers if they aren´t forced to give. On the contrary: They try to turn back the clock wherever they can.
We need worldwide unions, so that we cannot be played off against each other. Long way to go.

There was clearly a need for unionization in the US prior to 1950. The unions did a great job of providing basic rights for workers and checking immoral corporate actions. However, after about 1960, unions became for too strong and negotiated packages which were not sustainable in the long run…as the auto and steel industries can now attest to. IMO union strength is directly correlated to declinining productivity and increasing costs. If we want to compete w/China, unions must go.
